“There’s more to life than ATP” Parts One and Two
April 25th, 2008

This gig is going to be special- and it’s free! Come down from about 8.30 tonight (15/3/08) and enjoy the music (and the cake).

If we don’t see you tonight, then have a very lovely Easter break.
Love Highsoc x
Loads of thanks to everyone who came out drinking with us (it was hard work, we know)! It was great to see you all, we hope a good time was had. But now it’s time to knock that nonsense down the page a bit.

Papier Tigre are an excellent disjointed rock trio from Nantes.
Tigers! are a fourpiece from Leeds, and also probably the most exotic species of all. We’d tell you what to expect if we adequately knew ourselves.
And one more TBC!!! The suspense is killing us too! Although we do sort of know who it is… Details here as soon as we can.
If you like the sound of that, it would naturally be lovely to see you there. The Rose of England is just up the Mansfield Road from the Victoria Centre. Keep well until Friday!
Hello all, we’ve been slack we know but isn’t that customary for January, what with exams and deadlines. We’ve been through hell and back but we promise that we have plenty in store for you all. Firstly, there are rumours of a mini bar-crawl before we head off to Radar to see The Mourning After (we’ll let you know more very soon); a superb band composed of High Soc members; we can’t wait and a great chance to meet up with old faces or come along and meet some new faces! And then we bring you acts such as Papier Tigre and Vialka in February. Go and have a listen if you find yourself wondering what to do after your exams, except from getting slightly inebriated that is (evidence below).
Hello everyone,
Just a quick (and hopefully endearing) message to those who ever read the front page (and don’t just go straight to the forums, no doubt you dare click onto that link, NO!). Anyway, the whole committee would like to say thankyou for your continued support this year. We’ve failed in parts admittedly and hope to rectify this in 2008, so stay with us but we hope you’ll agree that we’ve excelled in other areas. Whilst we don’t want to be too analytical or optimistic, we feel that next year is going to be a very special one for High Society.
We already have 3 amazing shows lined up for February and well, you should acquaint yourselves with the bands because you don’t want to miss out. The first one is at The Rose of England on the 1st February with French quirky rockers Papier Tigre (think Q and Not U, Fugazi), derby rebels Younogodie and a fucking welcome return to Nottingham for the explosive TIGERS!, it’s been too long, it really has! We can’t wait for this one and our lovely friends of Clique Clack will be helping us out with this one!
Then we have French duo Vialka on 18th February who describe themselves as “Turbo Folk Micro-Orchestra” and then, looking further afield, we look forward to hosting the rather marvellous Brooklyn-based freaky-folk collective Skeletons and the Kings of All Cities on the 24th April. Still, if you find yourself dwelling with boredom over the festive period, why not spend some time investigating and listening to the bands, you might be in for a welcome surprise.
Anyway, without further ado, we farewell to 2007 and say hello to 2008. We have planned a whole host of events in the New Year for you, which we will keep under wraps for the time being…perhaps we’ll give them to you as a Christmas present in the next few days…(then again, perhaps not, perhaps we’ll just keeping you in suspense)
Best wishes,
Andy, Liv, Alex, Rob, Chris, Simon, Jo and Charlotte (and all the other helpers, you know who you are!)

The nights are getting colder, the days are getting shorter, the scrum for short loan is getting longer by the minute - that’s right, Christmas is just around the corner. And what finer way to count down the days until mummy buys you Guitar Hero 3 than with the High Soc Christmas Party! There are many more juicy details to be added, but so far we have the following confirmed:
Sunday, December 9th @ The Bodega Social Club (23, Pelham Street) 8.30-3.00

Gay Against You
Gay Against You is consisting of Joe Howe aka Germlin and Lachlann Rattray aka Yoko Oh No ! They are enthusiastic, messy and very, very friendly duo who inhabit the middle ground between Cyndi Lauper and The Locust. In the two years since they formed, they have toured extensively in the UK, performing with acts such as Lightning bolt, Help she can’t swim, DJ Scotch Egg, Shitdisco amongst others. Phew!
“Gay Against You are part of a fine mentalist tradition that spans Atari Teenage Riot, Denim and Diamonds, Les Savy Fav, Devo and, er, Dweeb and are a breath of fresh air in the often po-faced pretentious Glasgow noise/improv scene.” Diskant
“Two subterranean creatures dressed in primary school P.E. kits, complete with charcoal-stained eyes and badly-concealed erections, howl unintelligibly over spaz-core electronics.” Fused Magazine
